Solutions and Applications

Floating Floor

Concrete floating slabs are used where mass is needed to boost low frequency noise reduction. Engineers must consider disturbing frequencies and their harmonics as well as the natural frequency modes of the floor and structure to ensure sufficient levels of noise and vibration isolation are achieved.

Structures can be tuned to minimize resonance effects by adding mass and/or stiffness to change the dynamic characteristics. Alternatively, vibration control measures can be incorporated to provide vibration mitigation as well as enhance airborne and impact noise reduction. Incorporating a floating floor for noise or vibration isolation is often far more cost effective than the necessary increase in size and weight of steel or concrete required to suitably stiffen a structure. As the vibration is isolated at source, the acoustic performance is also generally much higher.

Two systems of Floating Floor, Elastomeric and Coil-Spring Isolators. The acoustic and structural performance of a Jack-Up floating floor is exactly the same as the equivalent non-jacked up system. The increased cost and installation time is only necessary in a few specialized circumstances.

Gresam offers a full range of resilient materials to reduce the impact sound transmission between floors, as well as full range of mass loaded systems to reduce the airborne sound transmission. Gresam ensures there will be no bridging between floor and walls by wall dissociation system when the floating floor is installed by our specialist installation team.
